Vmware tools is out of date on this vm

If you have the VMware Tools installed but they are out of date, you may lose some functionality depending on how out of date the VMware tools are. From there, you can click to update those tools as you see in the graphic below. However, my recommendation is to always use a virtualization management tool in your virtual infrastructure that can easily detect and identify problems like out of date tools as well as much more serious problems like hardware failures and capacity bottlenecks.

Recently, I did a webinar with vExpert Dennis Zimmer and vExpert Scott Lowe talking about top VMware VM issues like out of date tools and how the software as a service vSphere management tool — Opvizor — can help to automate problem detection and quickly show you the solution to remediate those problems usually before they impact end users.

The graphic above shows how Opvizor detects VMs with out of date or uninstalled VMware tools and tells you how to update them, either manually or through scripting actually providing you the script. In many cases, Opvizor even has a video showing you step by step how to perform the resolution to the problems that it identifies.

If you really don't want to deal with activation, just use KMS. Hi, it was vmtools that went out of date, it worked fine once the tools were updated. TomTom TomTom Hi, it is MAK based, what the issue is, is it went unlicened because of vm tools going out of date, and windows R2 seen this as a hardware change, dropped the mak licence and disjoined from the network.

I could still ping the server but couldn't login as a domain admin only local. No, that is absolutely not what happens. Not at all. And the key should be in the machine for a relicensing, unless somene deleted it after activating. Its really alarming, I'm still investigating this. Add a comment.

Microsoft have come back to me in relation to this issue, and this is what they have to say. Figure 6 License states Activated When a computer is activated, users can access the full functionality of the operating system. If you see the alert "VMware Tools is out of date on this virtual machine", you will most likely need to uninstall and reinstall vmware tools, and you may find that the VMs are missing the vmware-tools uninstaller and installer scripts. You can do this via SFTP. Options in square brackets are default choices and can be selected by pressing Enter.
